Jacob Atalla is the senior director of sustainability at KB Home. He leads the way in realizing KB’s sustainability goals of making every home it builds more environmentally friendly, and all aspects of its construction and business operations increasingly sustainable. Educated as an architect, Jacob has over 25 years of technology and green building experience, which form the foundation of his creative solutions for building energy- and water-efficient homes. Jacob serves on the board of directors of Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET), and Energy & Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA), and he also serves on the technical committee for Leading Builders of America, and chairs the Urban Land Institute’s Orange County/Inland Empire Sustainable Communities Initiative Council.

Michael has more than 20 years of extensive experience at all levels of the top 10 public homebuilders in the purchasing, supply chain and operational disciplines. This industry veteran currently serves as the Vice President of Purchasing for Beazer Homes and has held previous positions at the local, regional and national level with Pulte Homes. He has also served as a consultant for Dallas-based Builder Consultants, Inc. Michael has spoken at a number of homebuilder conferences in the last several years and has been recognized as one of Home Builder Executive’s top 200 Purchasing Executives in the Nation for six consecutive years.
President, Bozzuto Homes
As president of Bozzuto Homes, Tom Baum oversees the development, construction and sales of a wide range of for-sale products—condominiums, townhomes and single-family homes—from land acquisition to final settlement. In 2001 he joined Bozzuto Development Company, in 2003 was named president, and in 2006 assumed the responsibility of directing the company’s successful homebuilding operations. Before joining Bozzuto, he was a senior vice president with Summit Properties, Inc., where he was responsible for growing their Mid-Atlantic portfolio. While at Bozzuto, Tom has overseen the development numerous communities throughout the Washington, DC/Baltimore metro area. A registered architect, Baum serves as president of the Maryland Builders Industry Association.
Henry Clifford founded Livewire of Richmond, Virginia, in 2001 after identifying a need for simple home technology in Central Virginia. He began his IT career during the .com boom of the 1990s, working as a web developer and information architect. His lifelong passion for technology made Livewire an easy choice. Under Clifford’s leadership, Livewire acquired four competitors between 2011 and 2014, added 5,000 square feet of office/warehouse space, and is now the largest electronic systems contractor in Central Virginia. Chief Engineer, ETC
Michael Cogbill is recognized internationally as an authority in the field of integrated home and building systems. His professional career spans over 40 years as an engineer, manager and entrepreneur. Currently, he serves as Chief Engineer for ETC and guides the company’s engineering staff and system designs. He has been at the forefront in developing and implementing innovative integrated building systems for the estate home and hospitality market. Whether it’s a smart hotel room that provides its guest with comfort and convenience while saving energy or a smart home that does not encumber its staff or residents with managing lighting, temperature or music throughout the day and evening, Cogbill’s designs have created intelligent “autopilots” to manage the building spaces for its occupants and operators. Prior to ETC, he was an engineering consultant in the San Diego area.
Craig Curran started in the low-voltage industry in 1982 with Tri-Ed distribution, a company started by his father. After spending many years with Tri-Ed and DSC Security, he purchased a new home in 1997 and realized that the builder market needed help selling low-voltage technology to new homebuyers. In 1999, he formed Smart Systems Technologies to install systems into new homes. By 2006, SST was the fourth-largest integrator in the United States. As a leading innovator in the Southern California and Arizona marketplaces, SST has focused on customer and employee satisfaction as the way to maintain and grow their business.
Vice President, Michigan Energy Services
Rob Derksen has been involved in the geothermal heating and cooling industry since 1990. With extensive knowledge in manufacturing, distribution, geothermal system design and installation, Derksen has been a leader in the field of geothermal heating in Michigan since 1992. Michigan Energy Services provides turnkey designs, installation and services for geothermal equipment and closed-loop systems. To date, the company has been involved in about 4,000 geothermal installations in Michigan. Derksen is an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association accredited installer, with additional certifications in heat fusion and equipment service and installation from various manufacturers of geothermal equipment.
Vice President of Business Development, Vivint
Thomas Few oversees all channel partner, strategic partner and national account sales and operational initiatives for Vivint. He recently joined the company after nearly five years of running and growing Meridian Business Solutions, a company he founded in 2007 and assumed responsibility for all the operations and strategy of the organization. Before starting Meridian, he was executive vice president of Criticom International.
Regional Builder Manager, Guardian Home Technologies
Bill Graham has more than 40 years of experience in the security industry. He became active in the sales aspect of security on joining Westec Security in Pittsburgh where he went on to become its sales manager. In 1987, Guardian Protection Services recruited him to lead its overall sales initiatives for residential, builder and commercial verticals. Under Graham’s leadership, Guardian enjoyed rapid expansion and success, achieving super-regional status and a top 10 ranking on the SDM 100 as well as the CEPro 100. He oversees business development of Guardian’s home technologies division where he cre- ates builder partnerships that support Guardian’s efforts to grow its new home construc- tion vertical, which provides home technologies to new homebuying clients of builders across the country.
Owner, Green Energy and Electric
Rick Greene has been the owner of Green Energy and Electric, a commercial and residential electrical wiring and A/V integration company in Colorado, for almost 10 years. Their projects include restaurants, bars, specialty car garages, distilleries and custom homes. He strives to give his customers a complete and automated solution as a Level 3 PSP certified with Lutron. The company’s control package includes Radio- RA2, Caseta Wireless and Triathlon Shades. They use RTI as a platform for lighting, shade and A/V control, and they custom-build LED fixtures with Klus Design aluminum extrusions and tape light. They use Converging Systems color-changing LED tape light and control with RTI systems. They are also a Sonos Dealer. Their product, Apartment Manager, allows tenants to see real-time usage of gas, water and electrici- ty and allows the home owners association to control door locks and thermostats on vacant units.
Owner, Greico Modern Homes
Tom Greico started soliciting and drawing home plans for builders in Dallas while attending high school. After graduating from the University of Arlington School of Architecture in 1983, he set up a design studio and began building starter homes in a northern suburbs of Dallas. Over the decades the studio has designed for some of the city’s most prominent builders while the construction company has built more than 250 homes primarily in the northern suburbs. In 2007, he shifted focus away from the suburbs and started building inside Dallas, predominantly in post-World War II neighborhoods experiencing redevelopment. In 2015, his company will start and close more than 20 custom designed and built homes. Greico has been an active member in the Dallas Builders Association. His homes have won more than 20 awards for design excellence in the last five years, and he has been named one of Dallas’s Best Builders yearly since 2010.
Co-Owner, Hansell Mitzel Homes
Jeff Hansell is the co-owner of Hansell Mitzel Homes and has been in the home- building business since 1981. He has built homes all over Washington State and is now focusing on high-end custom homes in a resort community 80 miles east of Seattle. His primary demographic is twofold: empty nesters/retired couples and young tech families. Hansell has been active in various builder associations, serving as president of the Building Industry Association of Washington in 2006. He was inducted into the State Builders’ Hall of Fame in 2013.
Brian Leto has a successful track record in leading startups to success. In 1995 he was appointed World Wide Channel Development Manager for the startup Presstek, the first environmentally safe printing system in the world. He selected, managed and launched 10 new product initiatives in North America, Mexico and Europe. This channel provided in excess of $100 million of revenue per year. Leto spent 10 years as an environmental specialist for Fuji, DuPont and Kodak introducing new EPA conforming products to multiple markets. Aquaverde has developed a graywater processing and distribution system for new and existing residential markets.

The New Home Company
Joan currently serves as the senior vice president of sales, marketing and design for The New Home Company. She directs the company’s marketing efforts, sales management and design studio operations and is responsible for brand management throughout the organization. In her 20 plus years in the homebuilding industry, Joan has served other top builders including Brookfield Homes and Taylor Woodrow Homes. Joan currently serves on the executive committee of the BIA/OC Board of Directors, the Greater Sales and Marketing Council Board of Directors, California Homebuilding Foundation Board of Directors, and is the recipient of the 2012 B.J. Stewart Women’s Achievement Award.
Bill Maronet has been the founder and owner of ETC: Environmental Technology Control in West Palm Beach, Florida, since 1987. ETC works with clients, contractors, architects and interior designers to provide residential security, telephone, lighting, audio/ video, home theater and home automation/control systems. Maronet started his career in the telecommunications business as a technical contractor for ITT. He founded Marcom in 1978 to sell and install ITT telephone and security systems and guided Marcom from three employees to a publicly held company with more than 110 employees. Maronet is a founding board member and past chairman of the board of directors of the Home Automation and Networking Association and served for on the board of directors of the CEA’s TechHome division. He received CEA’s Industry Leader of the Year in 2007, and ETC received CEA’s Integrator of the Year in 2006.

Greg Simmons started in the industry as an alarm central station operator at 19 years old in 1989 with Eagle Sentry. He held positions as central station manager, project manager and sales representative until graduating from UNLV in 1993. Stephen Skelton is one of only three contractors in New Mexico certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. The father-son team of Stephen and Adam Skelton was named 2014 Installer of the Year by integrated green heating systems provider AllTherm/SolarLogic. Malachite specializes in radiant heating, solar thermal, solar hot water and high-efficiency boilers for residential and commercial customers, both high-end and middle-income.
