Inaugural TecHomeX California Provides Powerful Platform for Smart Home Industry

Regional hosted event unites leaders in residential design/build and tech integration/contracting, sparking business alliances and fostering the common understanding necessary for rapid, sustainable sell-through.

LONG BEACH, California – The first ever TecHomeX in California wrapped up March 10, concluding three days at the Long Beach Convention Center. The first-of-its kind event united builders, remodelers, tech integrators, architects, designers and MEP contractors and provided information and inspiration to help them drive home technology aggressively into the California homes and communities they build and work on.

The event’s 150 hosted guests represented more than $18 billion in annual revenue, 50,000 homes built, 4,000 homes designed and 17,000 installations. They included market leaders from all categories, including:

As part of TecHomeX’s unique hosted format, attendees learned from industry experts during general sessions focusing on hot topics, including “TecHome Market Pulse: What Consumers Want” and “2017 TecHome Game Changers.”

During the “Business Collaboration” roundtable session, representatives from each category identified the pain points of collaborating on smart home projects and brainstormed solutions that could benefit all. The most commonly voiced solution was to bring the technology integrator to the planning phases of a new home early and often.

“It’s been amazing and quite eye-opening to see the diverse technology,” said interior designer and TecHomeX hosted guest Carly Blalock. “There are some amazing people here. The companies are some of the best in the world, and the speakers were phenomenal.”

“I met several architects, builders and AV industry contacts through the boardrooms and general sessions at TecHomeX and was able to quickly develop intimate business relationships,” said Xeven Zorza, Chief Creative Officer of the ArchiTechKnowlogy Design Group.

“Especially on the architecture and design side, so much of our work involves collaborating with these people. They need to be educated on technology as well, and I think it is such an awesome thing that they are here at this event and we get to collaborate with them,” stated Chris Tennant, VP at Mt. Lincoln Construction. “It’s great that we’re both present at an event that’s teaching us what’s out there and what’s coming soon.”

For TecHomeX’s dozens of sponsors, the event’s format was designed to accelerate sales relationships with channel and influencer partners. Representatives from these leading home tech companies like ADT, alarm.com, Aprilaire, ChargePoint, Delta Products, Emerson, Infratech, Inmotion, InSearch Interactive, Legrand, Liftmaster, Lutron, Panasonic Eco Solutions, Sony, SnapPower, Sub-Zero, Volutone and Yale Locks met with guests during scheduled one-on-one meetings and boardroom presentations, guaranteeing connections with the VIPs.

“TechomeX’s one-on-one meeting structure allowed us to tailor our presentation specifically to each client and understand their needs,” said Ryan Thornton, COO of INseARCH Interactive. “The general sessions provided a solid foundation, informing attendees about the changing technological landscape in the housing market.”

“We’re thrilled with the guest audience and supplier mix we were able to assemble for this first hosted style TecHomeX in California,” said AE Ventures president John Galante. “Their interaction with each other and embrace of concepts for collaboration is sure to mean more sponsor products flowing through to California homebuyers and homeowners. That’s the essential goal of TecHomeX. Mission accomplished!”

TecHomeX California will return next year at the Pasadena Convention Center, March 19-21, 2018. And, with the success of this year’s event, AE Ventures is adding another to its schedule. TecHomeX East will be held at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT, May 8-10, 2018.
